Understanding the Objective
Linux Academy is an online cloud technology training platform targeted to business teams.
For a new initiative, Linux requested the creation of an illustrated display of their teaching bot. The only request was that the bot persona maintained a human likeness and would be able to be used throughout multiple marketing promotions. Thus, LIN was born.
Branding
The first goal with any bot persona is to make sure it fits seamlessly with the company’s original branding. When creating LIN’s color palate, all colors were pulled from Linux’s existing branding guidelines with the addition of a light red to help her stand out and aid in facial expressions. When designing the overall shape, LIN needed to be both streamlined and structured but maintain a sense of roundness seen in the Linux font. From a personal standpoint, this seems to provide a bit of levity to offset the intensive nature of the Academy’s curriculum.
LIN’s Features
While designing LIN, a personal goal was to create a simple design with easy-to-distinguish expressions based on user interaction. Each expression transitions easily with only one or two vectorized characteristics moving at a time.
Chat Function
The chat function needed to be a simplification of all LIN’s elements. The version that appeared on the site in chat form needed to provide a pared-down user experience while still maintaining LIN’s core branding engagement.
